Recognising the multidisciplinary nature of the property profession and its role in business, this BSc Real Estate programme seeks to develop a mix of property and business skills so that you will be well equipped to make sound business decisions based on an in-depth understanding of the commercial property market. Recognising the multidisciplinary nature of the property profession and its role in business, this BSc Real Estate programme seeks to develop a mix of technical and professional skills so that you will be well equipped to make sound commercial decisions based on an in-depth understanding of the real estate markets. The course starts by covering the building blocks of real estate such as property law, construction and valuation theory and you will then go on to develop professional and practical skills in complementary subject areas such as facilities and asset management. The course is built around the following key themes which, together with work experience and project tasks that simulate working practices, will give you the knowledge and practical skills to launch your career as a real estate professional: •Technical knowledge, for example valuation methodologies from first principles through to advanced techniques and software application, building technology and defects •Legal knowledge, including property and land law, the law of contract and tort and the relationship between landlord and tenant •Real Estate practice, including property appraisal, real estate investment and management, facilities management and professional practice. The course also offers a sandwich route which involves a paid placement where you can apply what you have learned at LJMU out in the workplace. Such experience will enhance both your professional skills development and your CV, boosting your employment prospects after graduation. Students not undertaking a placement year are registered on the non-Sandwich version of the programme and will have the opportunity of an additional study year abroad following Level 5, providing students with an additional year of study at an approved overseas partner that will complement their programme at LJMU.

Level 4 •Introduction to Valuation •Law for the Built Environment •Introduction to Property Appraisal •Introduction to Construction Technology •Property Economics •Introduction to Building Information Modelling •Collaborative Interdisciplinary Project •Academic and Digital Literacy During Level 4, students gain basic knowledge and theory of the real estate discipline with an introduction to valuation, real estate appraisal, law and construction technology. They will also have the opportunity to participate in collaborative activities and projects and build their academic and digital literacy skills. Level 5 •Applied Valuation Techniques •Building Pathology and Defects •Property Law •Planning and Development •Asset Management •Applied Building Information Modelling •Collaborative Interdisciplinary Project •Entrepreneurship •Research Methods Optional Year-long industry placement During Level 5, students will explore the application and integration of key real estate themes in more depth. In particular, students learn about applying valuation techniques to specific scenarios, with a more focused legal perspective relating to property ownership and management and progress their practical skills through learning about building pathology and inspection. They continue their participation in collaborative interdisciplinary activities and are also introduced to research methodology, skills and knowledge. Level 6 (fourth year for sandwich degree students): •Advanced Valuation Techniques •Statutory Valuation •Real Estate Management in Practice •Real Estate Investment •Collaborative Interdisciplinary Project •Research Project During Level 6, students focus on key concepts around the strategic implications of the real estate discipline. This includes learning about property investment strategies, professional practice, real estate management and advanced valuation techniques. Students will again be involved in collaborative interdisciplinary activities and complete a final year research project. Modules are designated as core or option in accordance with professional body requirements and internal Academic Framework review, so may be subject to change. Students will be required to undertake modules that the University designates as core and will have a choice of designated option modules. Additionally, option modules may be offered subject to meeting minimum student numbers.

Although management degrees are a popular choice, with nearly 5,800 degrees awarded, numbers fell quite a bit last year.
