Our MEng Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering programme has been designed to meet the growing demand for graduates with both mechanical engineering knowledge and manufacturing skills.By completing this degree, you will develop the high level technical expertise required to practice manufacturing engineering and function in the role of Chartered Engineer within the engineering and manufacturing industries. Alongside the core engineering syllabus you will learn essential manufacturing techniques in areas such as manufacturing processes and materials engineering plus business skills.LJMU is currently seeking Institution of Mechanical Engineers accreditation for this new programme. Such accreditation will qualify you for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Links with industry and placement opportunities Links with national and international companies, such as BMW, Airbus Industries, Rolls Royce and Shell mean that the course is tailored to the needs of employers. Capitalising on these and other links with industry, you will be encouraged to complete a years paid placement out industry so that you can apply what you have learnt at University in the workplace. You will be eligible to apply for the same financial support as other undergraduates for the duration of your MEng. This includes student loans to cover your tuition fees and living expenses plus means-tested grants and bursaries. This financial support is not available to students who enrol on an MSc degree after completing a BEng programme.Furthermore, if you are awarded an LJMU scholarship worth 1,000 or 10,000 you will receive this award for every year of your degree as well.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

We're short of engineers in a lot of areas and mechanical engineering is no exception. Mechanical engineers are in demand across multiple industries, with vehicle manufacturing most popular, with roles especially common in design and manufacturing. Other important sectors include aerospace, the oil and gas industry, consultancy and defence. Jobs are all around the country, with London, the Midlands, Scotland and the South East the most likely places for a new mechanical engineer to find work at the moment, and starting salaries are good. Although large employers are much the most likely place to get work, some of the most challenging, cutting edge jobs are with small niche engineering firms, so keep your eyes peeled if you want something a little different. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to an MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.
