This is a **four year degree** taught at our Hope Park campus. The **Foundation Year** aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.

**Creative Writing**
Creative Writing at Liverpool Hope will give you the chance to experience the joys of crafting the written and spoken word. Driven by creativity and employability, this degree focuses on literary and professional writing and will equip you with the ability to produce engaging, innovative and saleable texts.

By studying Creative Writing, you will be empowered with an enhanced command of your craft, increased confidence in expressing your thoughts and emotions, an understanding of the values that inform your writing practice, and the technical skill set to deliver your work to various audiences. Your writing will be enhanced by studying under celebrated writers and academics, as well as developing a range of workplace skills to prepare for fulfilling careers.

The degree will often challenge you and ask you to reach beyond your own experience and interests into those of contemporary and historical communities. Using these as creative stimuli, you will be required to reflect upon social contexts, power, and how truth and justice can be communicated or miscommunicated through creative writing. By the end of the degree, you should have a wide appreciation of forms, genres and applications. Included in the degree are field trips to Wales, and Liverpool museums and galleries, which provide material for writing exercises as well as widening your student experience.

**Marketing**
Marketing is one of the most challenging, fast-moving and exciting disciplines in business globally. Our Marketing degree has a theoretical focus that is combined with practical examples of how companies apply the theory on a day-to- day basis, meaning that what you learn is not only academically sound but also rooted in the realities of today’s dynamic marketplace.

During your degree, you will be provided with the key skills and knowledge that will enable you to understand marketing context, marketing research and the discipline’s central role to business success, while allowing you to reflect on the moral and ethical implications of marketing behaviour. The ever advancing fields of Social Media and digital marketing run through the marketing curriculum as central themes and allow you to reflect on the dynamic challenges and opportunities that these technological and cultural changes provide.

The degree has been designed so that you learn from research-active staff while at the same time being mentored and given masterclasses by industry leaders. Marketing focuses on a wide range of organisations, from SMEs to global multinational companies, and we have close interaction with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Studying a comprehensive view of the marketing world prepares you for a career in organisations of any type and size.

Assessment methods

There are a number of written assessments to complete throughout each year. These may include individual reports/analyses, group presentations supported by a report, in-class tests, and essays. There may also be exams at the end of each year. Assessment during the Foundation Year includes an Individual Learning Project.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

The jobs market for this subject - which includes creative writing and scriptwriting courses - is not currently one of the strongest, so unemployment rates are currently looking quite high overall, with salaries on the lower side. But nevertheless, most graduates get jobs quickly. Graduates often go into careers as authors and writers and are also found in other roles where the ability to write well is prized, such as journalism, translation, teaching and advertising and in web content. Be aware that freelancing and self-employment is common is common in the arts, as are what is termed 'portfolio careers', having several part-time jobs or commissions at once - although graduates from this subject were a little more likely than many other creative arts graduates to be in conventional full time permanent contracts, so that might be worth bearing in mind.

A lot of the jobs are in London, but graduates don't just go to work in advertising agencies — all sorts of industries do their own marketing these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways using a wide range of methods.
