The Higher National qualifications in Construction and The Built Environment are aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the construction and the built environment sector and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in construction and the built environment. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of the construction and the built environment sector, the Higher Nationals in Construction and The Built Environment give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training.

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma consists of the Level 4 Higher National Certificate (from a defined specialist pathway) plus an additional 120 credits at Level 5 delivered via one of the specialist pathways.

Modules

The course will be primarily theory-based within the College, supplemented by site visits, enrichment activities and some work experience placements. Units include; Design Principles and Application for Construction and the Built Environment, Applied Mathematics for Construction and the Built Environment, Technology of complex buildings,Site Surveying for Construction and the Built Environment, Design Principles and Application for Construction and the Built Environment, Low pressure Heating systems for Building services in the Built Environment, Lighting and Electrical design for Building services in the Built Environment, Science and Materials for Construction and the Built Environment, Group Project in the Construction Industry, Health and Safety in construction industry, Building Services Design, Installation and Maintenance in Construction.
