We welcome A Levels in a wide range of subjects, especially in those relevant to the course for which you apply.

60 credits (with a minimum of 45 credits achieved at level 3) in a relevant subject.

We may consider a standalone AS in a relevant subject, if it is taken along with other A Levels and if an A Level has not been taken in the same subject. However, you will not be disadvantaged if you do not have a standalone AS subject as we will not ordinarily use them in our offers.

Textile design

Get up close and personal with the customer experience of fashion. Youll learn how to communicate a brand narrative and deliver sustainable satisfaction in a business and consumer context. Throughout this four-year degree, you'll develop the knowledge and expertise of creative fashion marketing in business, with the opportunity to take a year working in industry.Through vibrant, client-facing projects, youll work in a realistic environment mirroring professional life after graduation. Youll develop key skills in creative direction and integrated marketing communications using a range of digital technologies. Your understanding of marketing principles, such as customer insight, trend forecasting and marketing planning will be developed through live briefs and seminars. We are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing to ensure professional rigour and a contemporary knowledge of industry practice.

Modules

Year One:

In your 1st year you'll develop an understanding of the principles of fashion marketing, as you examine visual merchandising, brand communications and the role of visual design in a globalised fashion context. You'll also have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in our fashion marketing studio using industry-standard equipment for creative direction and concept development.

Year Two:

During the 2nd year you'll explore the industry in greater detail, acclimatising to the many elements that make up this dynamic profession – with an emphasis towards trend prediction and brand development. The year is designed to develop your understanding of strategic marketing and international business practice. You'll also work on a range of assignments set by academic staff in collaboration with our industry partners.

Year Three:

Your 3rd year is an industry placement year, which allows you to undertake a period of supervised work experience under the direction of an employer. It comprises a 36-week period of employment and reflection, which will allow you to understand industry roles and your position within the sector. Before the placement, you'll create a study and work plan, advised and approved by your course team and the University's career service.

The sandwich year allows for structured reflection and the development of work-based skills such as those required by longer live projects, typically seasonal buying cycles. Finding and applying for placements are the student’s responsibility and associated tasks start in year two with CV writing support, careers advice and mentoring from both staff and more experienced students.

Year Four:

After your year in industry, you'll re-join the course to complete your degree. This year allows you to research and develop skills suited to your particular specialism, with an extended research project and strategic marketing plan geared towards the wealth of experience you'll have acquired. Following your year in industry there are often opportunities to develop a final major project that is work-based and applied to your placement employer. It enables graduates to present strategic and creative marketing skills in a professional portfolio of work.

Want to work in a growing, creative sector where we are a world leader? Welcome to design! The UK has a proud reputation as a centre of design excellence, and last year just over 14,000 design degrees were awarded. At the moment, the jobs market looks a little better for fashion and textile designers, and not as good for multimedia or interactive designers — but that may change by the time you graduate. In general, design graduates are more likely than most to start their career in London, although that also varies by subject — last year fashion designers often found jobs in the North West, graphic designers in the South West, illustrators in the South West, East Anglia and Midlands, textile designers in the Midlands and the North West, and visual designers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Midlands.
