The Public and Community Health BSc (Hons) is offered at Level 6 providing suitably qualified students the opportunity to “top up” to degree level.

The programme provides a framework for exploring key issues in contemporary public health in the UK. However, knowledge and skills can be transferred to the international context.
Content includes a consideration of different theoretical perspectives alongside the application of theory to current public health challenges. The development of knowledge and skills key to effective public health practice are integrated into the programme.

Modules

Compulsory modules include: Public and Community Health Dissertation; Health Promotion and Public Health. Optional Modules from: Gender, Health and Healthcare; International perspectives I: Globalisation & Health; Health and Social Care Management; Social Exclusion and Health.

Assessment methods

The programme offers a diverse range of teaching styles including lectures, student-led seminars, workshops, group work, electronic-based learning, guided reading, problem solving, visiting speakers (ensuring links with current practice) and tutorial support. Assessment includes essays, reports, exams, individual and group presentations, case studies and portfolios.

If studying full time you will normally attend 12 hours per week of time-tabled taught sessions, including lectures, seminars and workshops. Independent self-study of at least 20 hours is required and supported by staff offering individual and/or group tutorials.
