Contour Fashion (Communication) BA (Hons) is a new course at DMU within the field of contour fashion. It is a unique, diverse and multi-disciplined degree programme offering career opportunities in marketing, promotion, trend, product development, visual communication, PR and entrepreneurship. The course is suitable for students who want to begin their careers in the intimate apparel industry, while pursuing a role in marketing or promotion.

Assessment methods

The course team are highly experienced intimate apparel professionals and have worked with well-known brands within the industry. The course is further enhanced with guest lectures by industry professionals. Throughout the course you will be required to make visual and verbal presentations of you own concepts, ideas and strategies at the end of the modules.

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work and self-directed study. Assessment is through coursework (presentations, essays and reports) Your precise timetable will depend on the optional modules you choose to take, however, in your first year you will normally attend around 15 hours of timetabled taught sessions (lectures and tutorials) each week, and we expect you to undertake at least 25 further hours of independent study to complete project work and research.

Want to work in a growing, creative sector where we are a world leader? Welcome to design! The UK has a proud reputation as a centre of design excellence, and last year just over 14,000 design degrees were awarded. At the moment, the jobs market looks a little better for fashion and textile designers, and not as good for multimedia or interactive designers — but that may change by the time you graduate. In general, design graduates are more likely than most to start their career in London, although that also varies by subject — last year fashion designers often found jobs in the North West, graphic designers in the South West, illustrators in the South West, East Anglia and Midlands, textile designers in the Midlands and the North West, and visual designers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Midlands.
