It takes a mix of technical, analytical, managerial and practical skills to succeed as a civil engineer, which this BSc course can nurture.
Civil engineering is all about creating, improving and protecting the environment in which we live. This course supports a career in the design or construction of civil and structural engineering projects.
Your studies are underpinned by three core course themes, which are carefully balanced across all years of the course, centred on specific technical knowledge, construction practice and skills development through group project work.
We aim to provide an insight into the full breadth of design and construction disciplines that collaborate in the multidisciplinary construction industry. Full-time students also have the potential to benefit from the practical experience brought to the course by part-time students already working in industry.
Throughout the three years of study, we will cover the principles and practice of civil engineering within a global context, including structural analysis and design, materials, geotechnics, highways and surveying, construction and project management, hydraulics and water engineering.
The emphasis of this course is the application of theory to engineering practice and management, giving you the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required to go straight into the industry.

Modules
* There are three core course themes, which are carefully balanced across all years of the course: specific technical knowledge, construction practice and skill development through group project work.
* Throughout the three years of study you will cover the principles of civil engineering including: engineering analysis, structural analysis and design, highways and surveying, ground and water engineering construction and project management.
* In your final year you will get the chance to specialise in two of the following subjects: construction management, transport infrastructure, timber and masonry structures, steel and concrete structures, and advanced surveying.
