Engineering is the practical application of Maths and Science, these skills are used to create and improve everyday objects.
The Engineering industry is one of the most diverse in the country, with over 40 different types of Engineering disciplines. Electronic Engineering is the discipline of Engineering that specialises in designing and creating circuitry components for all sorts of electronic devices, from concept to construction including: Acoustics, Defence, Medical, Robotics, Mobiles and Gaming.
Learners studying for Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Engineering will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study: Ability to integrate a range of concepts, knowledge and skills relating to Engineering; ability to apply complex theories to practical realistic work situations in the Engineering sector; independence of approach to study and the generation of evidence; ability to engage with complex and/or unpredictable situations in electrical and electronic engineering contexts; ability to take responsibility to manage and direct their own and others’ activities; insight and judgment in relation to the margins and consequences of error; research and investigative skills; responsiveness to change and ability to multi-task; ability to innovate and work in a creative way.
Achieving a HND in Engineering will give direct access into employment in the engineering sector. It will also provide the option to top up you HND to an honours degree.

Modules

The new RQF qualification consists of 8 units. There is a required mix of Mandatory, Specialist and Optional units totaling 120 credits. You will study you mandatory units in your 1st year and you optional and specialist units in the 2nd year.
Mandatory units:
• Unit 1 - Engineering Design
• Unit 2 - Engineering Maths
• Unit 3 - Engineering Science
• Unit 4 - Managing a Professional Engineering Project (Pearson-set)
Specialist unit:
• Unit 19 - Electrical and Electronic Principles
• Unit 20 - Digital Principles
Optional Units:
• Unit 15 - Automation Robotics and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
• Unit 21 - Electrical Machines

Assessment methods

Assessment will be through assignments (mainly) and some examinations. Each outcome or module will be assessed by a project-style assignment. Upon completion of all outcomes in a unit, the student will be able to undertake the End Graded assignment or End Test (depending on the unit) to obtain a unit grade.
The method of assessment has been designed to encourage continuous written and verbal feedback throughout the course to ensure he highest grade attainable for each unit in conjunction with the highest quality education.
