Accredited by industry-bodies IMechE and IED, this degree develops high calibre engineers who are able to function both as an engineer and a technology leader in sectors such as aerospace, marine, automotive, alternative energy, oil and gas, and other high-tech industries.Industry-seasoned practitioners and guest speakers deliver your training in our brand new state-of-the art facilities of the Innovation Centre, giving you the knowledge and skills required to understand the behaviour, performance and limitations of new technologies, in addition to modelling and simulating the performance of technologies, whilst learning how to apply them to real-world situations.Offered as an integrated Masters degree over five years. Alternatively you could apply for the BEng (Hons) award which can be completed over four years of study.You can spend year 3 on a work placement, gaining a minimum of 30 weeks experience in a relevant industry. Our students have previously had placements with Jaguar Cars Ltd, Xerox, Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd and Dyson Appliances Ltd to name but a few. This proves invaluable in helping to enhance your employment prospects.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

As a mixed subject within engineering where students get a chance to learn from a range of disciplines, this course isn't taken by as many people as some of the more specialist disciplines. Demand for engineering skills is high, though, and so unemployment rates are low and the average starting salary was a very healthy £26,400 for 2015 graduates. Graduates are able to specialise enough to be working in jobs in engineering — especially in design and development - as well as engineering project management. IT and management consultancy were some of the more common jobs outside engineering. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to a MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.
