60 credits overall. Minimum of 45 credits at level 3. The remaining 15 credits can be taken at either level 2 or 3. Within the level 3 credits, a minimum of 30 must be achieved at distinction and must include Biology or Chemistry. Must have Mathematics, Science and English Language GCSE at 4 or equivalent prior to application. GCSE equivalencies only from Access Courses achieved prior to 2014, except for 2 Year Part Time Courses started within the 12/13 academic year. 12 Credits must be achieved at Level 2 + and certificate must state 'GCSE Equivalent'

Linked and mapped to the national curriculum for physical education, you'll be taught the physical activities and up-to-date information that teachers within this sector require. This PE and School Sport BSc (Hons) course will prepare you to apply for PGCE (teacher training) programmes in Secondary or Primary Education if you wish, or to secure a role as a sports coach, public health or developing the sport curriculum in schools - the possibilities are endless!

In addition to your degree, you'll also leave with a Level 5 in primary school PE specialism and PE subject leadership, which means you'll be qualified to up-skill PE staff (usually this costs approx. £1000 but is included in the course!). You can also apply for funding to gain qualifications in subject areas that you are passionate about, such as teachers swim award.

To help build your employability skills, you'll go on placements, typically in schools, working face-to-face and getting first-hand experience with pupils, something which will not only look impressive on your CV, but will also stand you in good stead when it comes to securing a full-time role.

The course is endorsed by the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and based in our £71 million City South Campus complete with state-of-the-art facilities including a sports hall and fitness suite.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

One of the fastest growing subjects in the country, the number of sports science graduates went from under 3,000 in 2003 to over 10,000 in 2013. Numbers have fallen slightly since 2015, but we still have over 9,000 graduates in the subject. However, the good news is the country's appetite for good health and fitness - and the adaptability of graduates in the subject - means that sports science grads are less likely than average to be out of work. Sports science graduates, not surprisingly, tend to get jobs in sport, fitness and health - coaching and teaching especially - but they're found all over the economy. Management and business are also popular options for graduates from this subject — and sports science graduates are particularly found where drive, determination and physical fitness are an advantage.
