Our MEng Automotive Engineering will develop your technical skills, enhance your creative thinking and give you the opportunity to learn from industry experts. We provide a stimulating environment, where we will encourage your creativity and help you to develop the attributes you need to stand out from the crowd. Our course is designed to meet industry’s current and expected future needs, so that upon graduating you will have the intellectual, technical and personal qualities necessary to successfully implement new technologies. You will develop knowledge and application skills in stress analysis, drivetrain systems, suspension, as well as body engineering, design and management. Throughout your course you will benefit from our strong industry links with companies such as the Morgan Motor Company, Westfield Sportscars and Aquila Racing Cars, Siemens and GKN. You will also be encouraged to join our BCU Formula Student racing club, which designs and builds a racing car each July to race at the IMechE-sponsored event at Silverstone. Choosing to study the MEng integrated Master’s degree programme will enable you to stand out from the crowd on graduation with a Master’s level qualification. You will also undertake a final year project which will help you to develop advanced technical and professional skills.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

Graduates are in significant demand, so unemployment rates are well below the national graduate average and starting salaries are well above average. Much the most common industries for these graduates are now vehicle manufacture - there are not enough people with these degrees to go round and so the big employers tend to take the lion's share at the moment. But pretty much anywhere there is manufacturing, there are production engineers. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to an MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.
