Bath Spa is renowned as a creative university; our excellence and situation attracts tutors and visiting lecturers from across the world. Our students are diverse and hard working and, being based in a world heritage city, are lucky enough to find inspiration on their doorstep. Creative Arts is equally practical and theoretical, and the facilities at Bath School of Art and Design are amongst the best in the country. From well-equipped studios and workshops; graphic communication studios, electronic media workshops and studios for art, textiles, sculpture, ceramics; workshops for wood, etching, lithography and silkscreen. It is also situated in its own beautifully landscaped gardens (despite being so close to the city centre). In June each year the site becomes a showpiece of student talent as the School of Art and Design hosts its annual degree show.

Modules

This subject is part of the Creative Arts programme, so you will select another subject to study with Visual Design. Modules are self-standing units of study, and you earn credits when you successfully complete them. As a full-time student you will take 120 credits each year (part-time students take between 40 and 80 each year). All courses have compulsory core modules each year, worth 40 credits. Then you can choose from a range of optional modules.

Want to work in a growing, creative sector where we are a world leader? Welcome to design! The UK has a proud reputation as a centre of design excellence, and last year just over 14,000 design degrees were awarded. At the moment, the jobs market looks a little better for fashion and textile designers, and not as good for multimedia or interactive designers — but that may change by the time you graduate. In general, design graduates are more likely than most to start their career in London, although that also varies by subject — last year fashion designers often found jobs in the North West, graphic designers in the South West, illustrators in the South West, East Anglia and Midlands, textile designers in the Midlands and the North West, and visual designers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Midlands. Design is also a good degree for people who want to work for a small business - more than half of graduates start at a small employer.
