Starting your personal statement: more tips

  • Keep your course choices at the front of your mind when you're planning out what to include in your statement. Be mindful of course details - are the interests you're highlighting relevant to the courses you're applying to?
  • List out the reasons why you love the subject and why you're suited to studying it at university. Enthusiasm is key, and this will help you sound genuine once you get writing.
  • Don't stress about the opening line - just start writing! As tempting as it is to crack the opening straight away, it'll be easier to come back to it once you've got the bulk of the statement written.
