Southampton Solent is right in the centre of town, so everything is within a ten-minute walking radius. ASDA is the main supermarket which is one of the best value shops going. On campus, there are several cafe's and lunch stands that sell amazing food for a good price. The uni offer a lot of activities to students that may not be able to afford to pay elsewhere: my favourite activity being the Sonar Film, which shows a newly released film every week night in the on-campus mini cinema for only 3! The sound and picture is just as good as the mainstream cinemas, and they even have films in 3D. Part time work is not hard to find if you know where to look. The uni offers vacancies to students for work in their shop, bar and cafes, as well as night work for hard working second year students, and summer work for those who want to earn money for the new term. There were no additional course costs that came up during my first year, but they advised that you invest in your future - so for me, it meant buying more instruments for my music career. I didn't mind though, I saved up my part time work money and invested in becoming a better musician! It is, after all, why I want to be at uni!
