Top sporty unis... as voted by students [2012-13]

Want to study a sports-related degree, go to a university where you can join a specific sports team or simply keep yourself fit? We asked current students to tell us how sporty their university is - and here are the top performers.

We surveyed almost 10,000 current students to find out first-hand how they rate their university on a whole range of characteristics, including sport, politics and local nightlife. By sporty we're talking unis with a large number of sports teams, clubs and societies on offer. Here are the results - plus a little taster of what each uni could offer you...

1. Loughborough University

Did you know...

  • The Uni was chosen by the British Olympic Association as the training base and official preparation camp for Team GB in the run-up to the London 2012 Games

4. Brunel University

Did you know...

  • For those who want to get involved with sport on a more flexible basis, the Active Brunel programme offers sport and fitness sessions designed for all abilities

5. Durham University

Did you know...

  • College sports plays a big part in uni life, with a participation of 90% in the College Sport Programme
  • The university enables students to promote sport in the local community with volunteering schemes at local schools and clubs

6. Leeds Metropolitan University

Did you know...

  • Olympic gold medallist, Jessica Ennis, uses the Carnegie Sports Centre on a regular basis to receive expert javelin coaching from the uni’s senior coach and former Olympian, Mick Hill
